3 Things To Take With You To Your First OB/GYN Appointment

Having a baby can be very exciting. One of the first things you need to do when you find out you're pregnant is to find an OB/GYN who can treat you through your pregnancy and help deliver your baby. When it is time for your first appointment, you want to make sure that you take a few things with you. Taking these things can help make the appointment go quicker and more smoothly. So, what are the things that you should take with you to the doctor's office for your first appointment?

List of Questions

If this is your first pregnancy, you are sure to have a lot of questions and concerns about what's going to happen. Even if it isn't your first pregnancy, you may still have questions. One way to ensure that all your questions get answered is to create a list of questions. This way you don't remember you wanted to ask a question about something as you're driving away. You can write the list down in a notebook or use a notebook app on your phone. Keeping that list with you will help you remember any questions.

Full Medical History

You should also make sure your OB/GYN has a complete medical history. Your doctor will need to know everything that has happened in your medical past, what medications you're taking now, and any other treatments you are undergoing. Those things impact your pregnancy, and if your OB/GYN doesn't know about them, they can't give you the best possible treatment. If you can get a copy of your medical records from your PCP, that would work well; you can just transfer them to your OB/GYN. If not, spend a few moments writing down your history and making a list of your medications, including any supplements. Then you can hand that information to the nurse to add it to your record.

Partner or Support Person

You don't need to bring this to your first appointment, but having your partner or a support person with you can be helpful. They can hear the doctor's words and ensure you don't miss anything. If your partner or support person is going through the entire pregnancy and delivery with you, getting everybody familiar with each other from the start is good.

When you get pregnant, you need to ensure you have the best medical care you can get. An OB/GYN can give you that care. Make sure you take a few things to your first appointment to make everything go more smoothly.
